Testimonials

I’m so grateful for Shemila’s tutoring over the past two years. Having been on the verge of quitting maths a-level her help has hugely improved my confidence and results. She was so kind and patient with me and explained things much more clearly than they were in my in school lessons. I am now consistently achieving grade A’s and above in exams which I didn’t think was ever possible. The courses were also extremely helpful, the questions replicated many of the ones I had in my mock which was really useful. I am so so glad I was able to be tutored by Shemila and would highly recommend 🙂

This course was so useful for me to become more confident in the difficult parts of maths A level as well as massively improving my test results. Shemila was very patient and explained everything so clearly on all the courses I took. I went from a C to consistently high A’s with her help and felt so much better about the A Level.

I can’t thank you enough for the endless support and huge amount of hard work you put towards the class and I. Thank you for teaching me to chip away, to tackle ‘the unusual’, and to find the graph below the ground. You’ve helped me with my confidence so much for both GCSE’s and A levels, and I can confidently say you are the best teacher I’ve ever had through my whole 14 years in education. I will forever be grateful for your dedication and I will never forget the humdinger of a Maths lesson I used to have with you.

“Mrs Douglas is very passionate about Maths, which makes her lessons engaging and has inspired my own passion for the subject. When teaching the basics, she builds solid foundations that link to more complex topics which helped me to understand the harder questions in my exams. For example, when teaching how to factorise at GCSE she introduces the grid method, which is then used for algebraic division in A level, and made this topic much easier for me to understand. Throughout my GCSEs and A levels she has worked hard to ensure I was being challenged to achieve as highly as possible”

“Mrs Douglas’ teaching style helped me to enjoy Maths and she put a lot of effort into producing extra work and putting on revision sessions so that I understood integration and differentiation”

“My son went to Dr Mirza for both GCSE & A level Maths. He didn’t find it easy but with her guidance he excelled, not only through her tuition but she also took time to get to know him. She worked on his weaknesses & built up his confidence & self belief. He enjoyed the lessons, not once saying he didn’t want to go & because of all her hard work he got the grades he needed.”

I cannot speak more highly of Shemila Mirza abilities as a maths tutor. We approached Shemila in 2019 on the recommendation of a close friend. Our son was struggling significantly with maths; He had lost all confidence in the subject and was not enjoying his lessons. We had noticed his progression in the subject has stalled and we actually felt that he was ‘moving backwards’.

A brief introduction by email was promptly followed by a friendly phone conversation. Shemila listened to our concerns and spoke directly to our son Cai regarding how he felt about maths. It was clear from this initial discussion that she was not only well versed and an expert in her subject – she was extremely empathetic and understood how to get the best out of her students.

Despite being heavily booked, Shemila went above and beyond in finding Cai a suitable tutoring time. As soon as his formalised tutoring began, we could see a marked difference in his approach to Maths. In a short space of time he transformed from a student who was clearly anxious in regards to his perceived ability to one who was more confident. Like most teenagers he was not always passionate about attending lessons – especially those he found more difficult. However, it was clear that with Shemila’s support he began to look forward to both his tutoring sessions and also his maths lessons at school. This enjoyment has grown, as has his relationship with Shemila. He continues to look forward to his tutoring sessions and she continues to build his confidence and abilities.

When Cai began with Shemila, he was 14 years old; He was in the stream scoring the lowest maths scores in his year group. His steady and constant progression under Shemila’s guidance has been amazing. Cai very quickly grew in confidence and was soon the highest scoring pupil in his class. Since then, he has continued to improve in maths. He is now consistently scoring the highest possible grades in his GCSE papers and is predicted A**/9 in maths. He has continued to enjoy maths and Shemila’s supportive nature has meant he still looks forward to his tutoring sessions.

The best way I can describe Shemila is a ‘Maths Whisperer’! The results simply speak for themselves. As parents we are thankful we were put in contact with her. Cai continues to develop in maths and has selected this as one of his A-Level options. Thank you Shemila from us all.

“Maths didn’t come naturally to my daughters. We started going to Shemila to help them build confidence in maths for CE then GCSE.
She was incredibly patient and realised the best way to encourage and teach each child, never worried about explaining things again in a different way so the child fully understands.
I cannot recommend her highly enough … all 5 girls got top grades and have gone on to use the sound bases they learnt within their jobs.”

Sasha

“Shemila and Chand really helped build my confidence in maths throughout GCSE and A-level with lots of giggles along the way. Giving me the context behind each method really helped to confirm my understanding. Two really lovely ladies who I would highly recommend!”
