Maths has been an intrinsic part of my life for 50 years, from childhood to my various careers. I am sure, if my Maths teachers were alive now, they would be surprised and proud in equal measure.
I understand the challenges Maths poses to young people at first hand. My interest in Mathematics led me to read Mathematics at undergraduate level and followed by a Masters in Operational Research (the application of Mathematics to business processes).
The Masters spring boarded me into a long and happy career at British Airways and there I was responsible for internal consultancy to many departments, such as Marketing & Sales, Finance and Ground Operations.
After the birth of my third child I took a short career break with my three children. It was the daily routine of reading and playing shops with my aged five and under children that sparked an interest in teaching.
I trained at a local school and became a secondary Maths teacher. My responsibilities have been broad and interesting from a classroom teacher, Head of Mathematics, Head of Core subjects to Assistant Head Teacher. The underlying thread in all my roles in teaching has been that every child matters.
Having lived Maths in numerous settings, I can also say the common denominator is an unfaltering love of the subject.

Working in both the state and independent sector, I have been an educator for my entire working career helping students to achieve their true potential and flourish in Mathematics. I have had 30+ years of teaching experience with 22 years at a top independent school.
I have extensive experience of private tutoring with great success and I have seen a huge improvement in many students who have been ‘switched off’ in Maths.
I understand the importance a teacher plays in developing deep understanding and encouraging a desire to succeed. Maths did not come naturally to me; whilst at school my then Maths teacher invested her own personal time to help me improve. It is from this firsthand experience I believe that the right teacher can unlock misconceptions and lay the foundations to success.
A complete surprise to my teachers, I then went on to study a degree in Mathematics and loved it so much that I invested a further 3 years of my life researching a PhD in the area of cryptography.
My deep knowledge of Mathematics puts me in an ideal position to understand the stumbling blocks that young people experience when dealing with concepts such as adding fractions to the intricate details of calculus.
I truly believe that if I can succeed at Maths then anyone can.
